Bowden, Marchesano Earn All-League Awards

Sophomore Nancy Bowden and freshman Maria Marchesano were honored by the Horizon League on Tuesday (Feb. 27). Bowden was one of five league players to earn a spot on the league's all-defensive team, while Marchesano was cited to the all-newcomer squad. Head coaches, sports information directors and media officials voted on the all-league awards.
Bowden, a 5-2 point guard, ranks fourth in the league in steals (2.73) and also ranks in the top ten of the conference in assists and assist-turnover ration. She was one of four backcourt players to make the all-defensive team, with Detroit's Michelle James, UW-Green Bay's Elizabeth Dudley and Kristy Loiselle and UW-Milwaukee's Allison Klaas joining her .
Marchesano has posted an impressive rookie campaign. She ranks third on the team in scoring, averaging 7.9 points per game. The 5-10 guard/forward tied a school record last week against Wright State, by connecting on seven three-pointers en route to a career-high 23 points. She holds the school record for three-pointers made in a single season (162) and currently ranks second on Butler's all-time list for three pointers made in a season (59). The Fort Wayne, Ind. native ranks third in the league in three-point field goals made per game (2.15) and ranks sixth in the league in three-point field goal percentage (.360).
UW-Green Bay head coach, Kevin Borseth, was named Horizon League Coach of the Year, while UW-Milwaukee's Maria Viall was named the Player of the Year. Jen Perugini, a Youngstown State freshman, was honored as the league's Newcomer of the Year.
