Nancy Bowden Named To All-Defensive Team

GREEN BAY, WIS. - Junior Nancy Bowden was one of six players named to the All-Horizon League Defensive Team, league officials announced today at the Horizon League Championship banquet on the campus of UW-Green Bay. Bowden leads the league with 3.19 steals per game, which also ranks 23rd nationally.

The 5-2 point guard has compiled 86 swipes this season, which ranks eighth in a single season. She has recorded 193 steals on her three-year career, which ranks sixth all-time. Bowden also leads the league in assists (6.6 pg) and ranks second in assist/turnover ratio (1.74). She is averaging 10.2 points and 3.8 rebounds on the season.

Joining Bowden on the All-Defensive team were UIC's Jaysie Chambers and LeKesha Williams, UW-Green Bay's Elizabeth Dudley and Kristy Loiselle and Ashley Schrock from Cleveland State.

The Horizon League also announced the All-League teams at the banquet. Loiselle, who was named the league's Player of the Year, led the first team award winners. Joining her on the first team was Chambers and Williams, along with UW-Milwaukee's Maria Viall and Wright State's Tiffany Webb. On the second team All-League were Sara Boyer (UWGB), Dudley, Sarah Hamilton (Loyola), Erika Roudebush (CSU) and Schrock.

The All-Newcomer team was comprised of Detroit's Catie Goddard, who was named the Newcomer of the Year, Nicole Drummond and Anne Witte from UW-Milwaukee, Erin Martin from Cleveland State and Mandy Mennella from Loyola.

Kevin Borseth, who guided the Phoenix to its fifth straight regular-season title, was named the Horizon League Coach of the Year for the second straight season.

The Bulldogs, seeded ninth in the tournament, will take on No. 8 Youngstown State tonight at 8 p.m. EST in the play-in game at the Phoenix Sports Center.
