Monica Claridge has resigned her position as an assistant women's basketball coach at Butler to pursue other coaching opportunities, the university announced today. Claridge came to Butler two seasons ago as a member of coach Beth Couture's first Butler staff. She will remain at Butler through the end of April.
"These past two seasons at Butler have been a great experience for me," said Claridge. "I've learned a lot in my time here, but I feel it's time for me to move on and explore new opportunities in coaching."
In addition to her on-court coaching responsibilities, Claridge assisted in team travel, recruiting and scouting for the Bulldogs. Claridge also served as the coordinator for Butler's summer camps.
"Monica has contributed a great deal to our success here in two seasons," said Couture. "We hate to see her leave, but wish her the best of luck in her future endeavors. Wherever she ends up over the next few months, I'm confident she'll do an outstanding job there, just as she has done for us."
Claridge, a 2000 graduate from Saint Joseph's College in Rensselaer, Ind., where she was a four-year letterwinner, was the head coach at Michigan City High School for two seasons, earning the News-Dispatch All-Area Girl's Basketball "Coach of the Year" award for the 2000-01 season.
Couture announced a review of applicants will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
