Bulldogs and Hoosier Lady Stars to Meet Nov. 9 in Exhibition

Aug. 26, 2005

Butler will open the 2005-06 women's basketball season with a Nov. 9 exhibition game against the Hoosier Lady Stars, a preseason opponent of the Bulldogs in each of head coach Beth Couture's three previous seasons. The Lady Stars are a team of former college players with Indiana ties. The tip is set for 7:30 p.m. at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

In addition to the exhibition on the evening of Nov. 9, that day will also serve as Butler Basketball Media Day, as Couture and men's basketball coach Todd Lickliter will address a group of media members and fans during the annual luncheon. Information on other preseason events will be released as plans are finalized. In the past, Couture has allowed fans into practice for a sneak peak at the Bulldogs during a Blue-White scrimmage during the preseason.

Butler classes began Wednesday and the players, most of which were on campus during the summer working out and taking summer classes, will begin individual workouts soon. The first official day of practice for the team is Saturday, Oct. 15.

The Bulldogs won last season's contest, 73-70, against the Lady Stars as 11 players scored in the game and the entire roster saw at least six minutes of action.

Single-game tickets for Butler women's basketball are $5 for adults and $3 for youth. Butler also offers "Get In The Game" cards ($25) and Jr. Bulldog memberships ($25 new, $15 renewal), which provide admission to all home contests for volleyball, football, women's basketball, men's and women's soccer, and lacrosse (Jr. Bulldogs also include men's basketball). Information, including special group prices, is available by contacting the Butler ticket office at (317) 940-9390.

The Bulldogs finished the 2004-05 season with a record of 14-14, including an 8-8 mark in Horizon League play. The Bulldogs return 10 letterwinners, who accounted for 64 percent of the team's scoring, and add four talented newcomers to the squad for the upcoming season.
