Indianapolis, Ind. - Indiana high school standouts Devin Brierly and Kaley May have each signed National Letters of Intent to attend Butler and play basketball for the Bulldogs beginning with the 2008-09 school year. Butler head coach Beth Couture made the announcement at the start of the early signing period on Wednesday (Nov. 14).
"We feel really fortunate to be able to add these two quality ladies to our family," Couture said. "These are players that will greatly help us as we continue to try to play at a high level in our league."
Brierly, a 5-10 senior guard from Southwestern High School in Hanover, Ind., is a three-time all-conference and all-section team member and a two-time all-region team honoree. A two-year team captain and MVP, she was also tabbed to the Madison Courier All-Area First Team two years and to the Rumble on the River All-Tournament Team three times. Brierly has also led the team in three-pointers made every season and assists twice.
May, a 5-11 guard/forward from Avon (Ind.) High School, was twice named to the Hoosier Basketball Magazine All-State Team and was tabbed to the Indiana Junior All-Star Team. Avon's team MVP last season, she earned all-conference, all-county and all-area team honors and was listed among the IBCA/IHSAA Top 100 Showcase. May was also mentioned on Midwest Sports Publishing's Sectional Starting Five for the 2005-06 and 2006-07 seasons and was named as an Indiana Basketball Magazine 4A Top Player Diamond Selection.
The Bulldogs will try for a 3-0 start to the season on Saturday (Nov. 17) when they square-up with No. 23 Purdue beginning at 7:00 p.m. ET at Mackey Arena.
