Butler Places Fourth At Ann Rhoads Shootout

CALERA, ALA. -- With the snow and cold of Indianapolis a distant
memory, Butler’s women’s golf team kicked off the 2010
spring season with a fourth place finish at the 36-hole Ann
Rhoads/Birmingham Southern Shootout at Timberline Golf Club in
Calera, Ala. The Bulldogs finished with a two-day total of
657, four strokes behind Evansville in third place.
Junior Molly Fields paced Butler’s early season competition
with an eighth place individual finish. Fields shot an
opening round 79 and then closed with an 81 for a 36-hole score of
160. She was one stroke behind Breanne Smith of team champ
Indiana State in seventh place and six strokes away from a
“Top 5” individual finish.
Sophomore Michele Nash had Butler’s best single round in the
tournament with a 78 on the final day. She carded an 86 in
the opening round and finished in a tie for 11th place at
164. Sophomore Clare Cornelius had Butler’s other
“Top 20” individual finish with a two-day total of 165
(81-84), good for a tie for 14th.
Junior Allison Lipps wound up in a tie for 21st place with rounds
of 85 and 85 (169), while freshman Julia Porter finished 26th with
a final score of 173 (85-88). Freshman Alexandra Arends,
playing as a non-scoring individual, finished 30th with a 183
(91-92).
The Bulldogs will take a brief break before returning to action at
the North/South Collegiate Tournament in Jacksonville, Fla., March
8-9.
