Molly Fields Paces Butler At Don Benbow Invitational
JACKSONVILLE, FLA. -- Junior Molly Fields posted a “Top
10” individual finish and Butler wound up eighth in the team
competition at the Don Benbow Invitational, hosted by Butler in
Jacksonville, Fla., on Monday and Tuesday (March 8-9).
Houston Baptist won the 11-team tournament played at the
Jacksonville Beach Golf Course.
Fields paced the Bulldogs on the first day of the 36-hole
tournament with a 78, which matched the fifth-best individual score
of all players in the opening round. She then closed with an
82 for a two-day score of 160, good for ninth place in the
tournament.
Sophomore Michele Nash wound up tied for 26th place in the event
named for former Butler coach/administrator with a 36-hole score of
168 (86-82), while sophomore Clare Cornelius finished in a tie for
43rd place with a final total of 178 (88-90). Junior Allison
Lipps and freshman Julia Porter tied for 49th place with final
scores of 182. Lipps shot back-to-back rounds of 91, while
Porter posted a 94 on the first day and then closed with an 88.
Junior Marcella Moreman, playing as a non-scoring individual
finished in a tie for 21st place with a two-day score of 166.
Moreman carded back-to-back rounds of 83.
The Bulldogs will continue play in Florida at the St. John's Spring Fling in Orlando, March 12-14.
