Bulldogs Capture Butler Spring Invitational Title
AVON, IND. -- Junior Marcella Moreman finished runner-up in the
individual competition and Butler captured the team crown at the
Butler Spring Invitational, which concluded at Prestwick Country
Club on Tuesday (March 23). The 10-team tournament was
reduced to an 18-hole event, because of heavy rains on Monday
(March 22).
Moreman shot a career-best 75 to pace the Bulldogs. She
finished one stroke behind individual champ Kristi O’Brien of
IUPUI. The second place finish also was a career-best finish
for Moreman.
Sophomore Michele Nash finished one stroke behind Moreman and wound
up in a tie for third place in the tournament, while junior Molly
Fields and sophomore Clare Cornelius tied for 11th place with
rounds of 80. Freshman Ali Arends completed Butler’s
five-player scoring team with an 85, good for a tie for 28th
place.
Junior Allison Lipps finished in a tie for 37th place with a 90,
freshman Julia Porter tied for 46th place with a 96 and sophomore
Maribeth Ornelas placed 54th with a 103. All three were
playing as non-scoring individuals.
Butler finished with a team score of 311, seven strokes better than
co-second place finishers Dayton and IUPUI.
