Bulldogs Finish Third At Horizon League Championship
LEXINGTON, KY. -- Sophomore Michele Nash tied for fourth in the
final individual standings and Butler wound up third in the team
competition at the Horizon League Women’s Golf Championship,
which wrapped up at Kearney Hill Golf Links in Lexington, Ky., on
Sunday (April 25). Detroit won the 54-hole championship.
Nash finished the three-round tournament with a score of +17
233. She shot a 76 in the opening round, carded a 78 in the
second round and finished with a 79. Her total, which was
tied by Katie Rogner of Youngstown State, was three strokes shy of
Youngstown State’s Samantha Formeck in third place.
Butler sophomore Clare Cornelius also posted a “Top 10”
individual finish, while junior Molly Fields came in 11th.
Cornelius tied Lucille McGovern of Loyola for ninth place with a
54-hole score of 241 (78-84-79), while Fields finished one stroke
back at 242 (75-85-82).
Freshman Julia Porter tied for 13th place with a 245 (84-81-80),
while junior Marcella Moreman tied for 16th at 249 (81-87-81).
Detroit, led by medalist Alainna Stefan (73-77-76, 226), finished
with a team score of 943, nine strokes better than runner-up
Youngstown State. The Bulldogs finished with a team score of
957.
Nash, who was named first team All-Horizon League prior to the
tournament, earned a spot on the League All-Tournament Team with
her tie for fourth place. Fields also was named to the
All-Horizon League squad.
