Butler Places Sixth At Chris Bannister Classic
Junior Molly Fields wound up with a “Top
15” individual finish to pace the Butler women’s golf
team at the season-opening Chris Bannister Gamecock Classic, which
wrapped up at Silver Lakes on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail on
Tuesday (Sept. 8). Butler finished sixth in the three-day
tournament.
Fields carded a 54-hole total of 228 to place 11th in the final
individual standings. She opened the tournament with a 75 and
then posted the team’s best tournament score with a 74 in the
second round. She finished with a 79 in the final round.
Sophomore Michele Nash tied for 16th in the
competition with a three-round total of 233 (78-78-77), while
sophomore Clare Cornelius came in 23rd with a 238
(81-77-80). Junior Allison Lipps tied for
32nd place with a 247 (88-81-78) and junior Marcella
Moreman placed 41st with a 258 (88-86-84).
Butler freshmen Julia Porter and Ali
Arends, playing as non-scoring individuals, finished 31st
and 40th, respectively. Porter carded a 246 (82-83-81), while
Arends shot a 254 (83-87-84).
Angela Drane of Louisiana-Monroe captured medalist honors with
rounds of 74, 69, and 72 (215), two strokes ahead of runner-up
Lucia Fernandez of host Jacksonville State (73-72-72). Lamar
captured the team title with a final score of 904, while
Jacksonville State finished second, four strokes back.
Louisiana-Monroe was third (911), followed by Indiana State (918),
Arkansas State (918), Butler (946), Northeastern State (956) and
West Georgia (1005).
