Butler Ties For Fifth Place In Fall Womens Golf Invitational
Butler picked up a pair of “Top 10” individual
performances and wound up tied for fifth place in the team
standings at the Butler Fall Golf Invitational held at Eagle Creek
Golf Course on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 5-6. Butler climbed
two spots in the team standings on the final day.
Junior Molly Fields led Butler and placed fifth
overall with a 36-hole score of 153. She shot a 78 in the
opening round and then improved three strokes in the rain on the
final day. Her four-over-par 75 was the third-lowest
score posted in the final round.
Sophomore Michele Nash also captured a “Top
10” finish with a two-day score of 155. She had
Butler’s best opening round with a 77 and then closed with a
78 to tie for ninth in the final standings. Sophomore
Clare Cornelius posted rounds of 79 and 84 (163)
and wound up tied for 36th place, while junior Allison
Lipps tied for 51st with a final score of 168
(82-86). Freshman Alexandra Arends placed
72nd with rounds of 93 and 85 (178).
Butler’s non-scoring individuals were freshman Julia
Porter, who tied for 44th, and junior Marcella
Moreman, who tied for 63rd. Porter carded
back-to-back rounds of 82 (164), while Moreman shot identical
rounds of 86 (172).
Angela Gauck of Marian captured individual medalist honors with a
two-day score of three-under-par 141. She had the best
opening-round score with a 71 and the best second-day score with a
70. Jaymie Voorhees of Eastern Illinois finished second with
rounds of 75 and 72 (147).
Eastern Illinois, with a two-day score of 617, was the team champ,
while Indianapolis finished second, five strokes back.
Western Illinois (628) came in third, followed by Western Kentucky
(636), Butler (638), Indiana State (638), IUPUI (639), Marian
(641), Chicago State (643), Evansville (652), Green Bay (658),
SIU-Edwardsville (659), IPFW (696) and Valparaiso (771).
