Bulldogs Place 11th At MAC Preview
Junior Molly Fields placed among the “Top
20” individuals and helped lift Butler to an 11th place team
finish at the Duramed Mid-American Conference Preview, which
wrapped up at Hawthorns Golf and Country Club in Fishers on Tuesday
(Oct. 13). The Bulldogs were one of 16 teams competing in the
54-hole tournament.
Fields carded back-to-back rounds of 77 over the final 36 holes and
finished with a three-round total of 235. She wound up in a
three-way tie for 17th place, just three strokes shy of a
“Top 10” finish. She had the Bulldogs’ best
score in each of the final two rounds.
Sophomore Michele Nash finished three strokes back
in a tie for 25th place. She had Butler’s best
opening-round score with an 80 and then added a 78 and another 80
for a 54-hole total of 238.
Sophomore Clare Cornelius wound up tied for 53rd
place with a 247 (81-82-84), while freshman Julia
Porter tied for 72nd place at 254 (93-83-78).
Junior Allison Lipps tied for 82nd place with a
three-round total of 267 (88-87-92).
The Bulldogs opened the tournament with a team round of 330, before
bouncing back with solid scores of 320 and 319 in the final two
rounds. Butler’s final score of 969, 12 strokes behind
Oakland in 10th place.
Breanne Neufeld of Bradley captured medalist honors with a final
score of seven-over-par 223, one stroke ahead of runner-up Britney
Hamilton of Western Michigan. A total of 92 golfers were
entered in the tournament.
Ball State claimed the team crown with a final score of 933, while
Eastern Michigan finished runner-up at 935.
