Bulldogs Place Fifth At APSU Intercollegiate
Butler, bolstered by two players among the “Top 15”
individuals, wound up placing fifth in the 17-team F&M Bank
APSU Intercollegiate women’s golf tournament, which wrapped
up at Clarksville Country Club on Tuesday (Oct. 20).
Junior Molly Fields and sophomore Clare Cornelius were among five
players who tied for 13th place in the tournament with 36-hole
scores of 159. Fields shot a team-best 77 in the opening
round and then closed with an 82. Cornelius was one-stroke
behind Fields after the first day, and then she moved up with an 81
on the final day.
Junior Allison Lipps narrowly missed a “Top 25” finish
with a two-day score of 164. She shot an 83 in the first
round and then tied Cornelius with an 81 in the second round to
finish in a tie for 26th place. Freshman Julia Porter tied
for 36th at 167 (84-83), while sophomore Michele Nash tied for 61st
at 173 (86-87).
Butler head coach Bill Mattingly also entered two players as
non-scoring individuals. Junior Marcella Moreman wound up in
a tie for 71st place with a 36-hole score of 178 (87-91), while
freshman Alexandra Arends tied for 77th at 182 (91-91).
Butler was third after shooting a team score of 322 on the first
day, but the Bulldogs slipped two places with a 327 on the final
day. The Bulldogs’ final team score of 649 was 29
strokes behind team champ Morehead State.
