Julia Porter Named Horizon League Golfer of the Week
INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- Sophomore Julia Porter,
who helped lead Butler to a runner-up finish at the 2011 Ann Rhoads
Invitational in Birmingham, Ala., has been named Horizon League
Golfer of the Week for the period of Feb. 22-28.
Porter placed second in a field of 54 golfers at the Alabama
tournament, Butler’s first 2011 competition. She shot a
team-best score of 78 in the first round of the two-day tournament
and then shared team scoring honors with a five-over-par 77 in the
final round. Her 36-hole score of 155 was four strokes behind
medalist Emily Gibson of Montevallo.
Porter was one of just two golfers to break 80 in both rounds of
the tournament. Gibson was the other. She topped
Butler’s individual scoring by five strokes. The
Bulldogs finished with a 36-hole total of 651, just three strokes
behind team champion West Florida.
A native of Monrovia, Ind., Porter is now eligible for next
week’s Horizon League Network “People’s
Choice” award, which is announced each Thursday
