Butler Splits Golf Dual Matches In Florida
JACKSONVILLE, FLA. -- Junior Michele Nash led all scorers and
paced the Butler women’s golf team to a victory over
Cleveland State in a spring match played in Jacksonville, Fla., on
Saturday (March 12). The win gave Butler a split in its
men’s/women’s dual matches against the Vikings.
Nash shot a match-best 80 to spark a strong showing by
Butler’s women in their first 2011 competition. She was
one of four Bulldogs to shoot better than Cleveland State’s
top performer. Junior Clare Cornelius carded an 84, sophomore
Ali Arends shot an 85 and senior Molly Fields posted an 86.
Shelly Ford led Cleveland State with an 87.
Butler topped the Vikings, 335-361.
Sophomore Matt Vitale led Butler’s men with a 74 and senior
Ryan Wegeng carded a 76. Junior Alex Walker and sophomore
Andrew Wegeng both finished with a 77, but it wasn’t enough
to overcome Cleveland State, led by Pat Elber’s 73. The
Vikings claimed a 298-304 decision.
Both Butler teams will be in action at the Benbow Invitational in
Jacksonville, Fla., on Monday and Tuesday, March 14-15.
