Butler Captures Women’s Big Four Title

CARMEL, IND. -- Senior Molly Fields captured medalist honors and helped Butler to the team title at the annual Big Four Classic women’s golf tournament held at Crooked Stick Golf Club on Thursday, April 7.  The one-day event matched Butler, DePauw, Franklin and Hanover.

Fields shot a 75 on the 6,181-yard par 72 layout and claimed the top spot by three strokes.  She carded a 39 on the front nine and then closed with a tournament-best 36 on the back nine.  The Butler senior had a tournament-high 14 pars and one birdie during her 18-hole round.

Junior Michele Nash finished runner-up in the four-team meet with a 78, while junior Clare Cornelius placed fourth with an 81.  The two former high school teammates tied for tournament-high honors with three birdies apiece.

Sophomore Julia Porter, who matched the best front-nine score of the day with a 39, finished in a tie for fifth place with an 18-hole score of 82.  Sophomore Ali Arends rounded out Butler’s five-player squad with an 88 and a tie for 11th place.

The Bulldogs posted a team score of 316, 14 strokes better than runner-up DePauw.  Franklin finished third at 372, while Hanover posted a 379.
