Butler Wins Dayton Fall Invitational
KETTERING, OHIO -- Junior Michele Nash captured
medalist honors and led the Butler women’s golf squad to the
team title at the 2010 University of Dayton Fall Invitational,
which wrapped up on Tuesday, Oct. 19. The Bulldogs finished
with a 36-hole team score of 600, 19 strokes better than runner-up
Detroit.
Nash, who stood third after shooting a 73 in the opening round of
the tournament, carded a two-over-par 72 on the final day and
finished with a 36-hole total of 145, four strokes better than
runner-up Samantha Formeck of Youngstown State. She was one
of two Butler golfers to post the tournament’s best final
round total.
Junior Clare Cornelius was the other. Cornelius improved
seven strokes on the final day and moved from a tie for 23rd place
after the opening round to a tie for fourth in the final
standings. She shot a 79 on the opening day and then stormed
back with a 72 for a two-day total of 151. Her final total
was matched by teammate Molly Fields, who posted rounds of 75 and
76 to give Butler three of the “Top 5” individuals.
Sophomore Julia Porter finished ninth in the individual standings
with rounds of 78 and 75 (153), while senior Marcella Moreman tied
for 38th place with rounds of 90 and 79 (169). Sophomore
Alexandra Arends, playing as a non-scoring individual, also tied
for 38th with a final score of 169 (82-87).
Butler shot and opening round team score of 305 and stood in
second place, one stroke behind first round leader Green Bay.
The Bulldogs then ran away from the field with a sizzling 295 in
the final round.
