Michele Nash Named Horizon League Player of the Year

INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- Butler senior Michele Nash has been named Horizon League Women’s Golf Player of the Year for the second consecutive year.  Nash received the league’s top individual honor at the league’s pre-tournament banquet in Howey-In-The-Hills, Florida, on Thursday, April 26.

Nash, who leads the Bulldogs in scoring, is the second Butler player to be named Horizon League Player of the Year in back-to-back seasons.  Lynnsey Showers was the first, earning the league’s top honor in both 2005 and 2006.  Butler’s Niki Garden was chosen league Player of the Year in 2007.

Nash also was named first team All-Horizon League for the third consecutive year.  The Butler senior was joined on the All-League squad by teammates Isabella Lambert and Jenna Peters.  The two Butler freshmen earned league honors for the first time.

Lambert, who stands second on the Butler team in scoring, further was honored as the Horizon League Women’s Newcomer of the Year.  Butler head coach Bill Mattingly was named league Women’s Coach of the Year for the second straight campaign.

The Butler women will begin defense of their Horizon League Championship on Friday, April 27.  The 54-hole league championship meet will be held at the Mission Inn Resort Club.
