Butler Heads To NCAA Tournament
INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- Butler, fresh off a second straight title
in the Horizon League Women’s Golf Championship, will be
heading to Columbus, Ohio, to begin playing in the 2012 NCAA
Division I Women’s Golf Championship. The NCAA Division
I Women’s Golf Committee announced the teams and individuals
for this year’s championship on Monday, April 30.
Three regional tournaments will be conducted May 10-12 to determine
the championships field. Regional tournaments are considered
preliminary rounds of the NCAA championships competition, and all
national championships policies apply.
A total of 378 participants have been selected for regional
competition. Of these players, 126 will advance to the
championships final. Eight teams and two individuals will
advance from each regional.
The Bulldogs are one of 24 teams assigned to the Central Regional,
being hosted by Ohio State University and being held at the Ohio
State Scarlet Course. The East Regional is being played at
the Penn State Blue Course in State College, Penn., while the West
Regional will be at the Colorado National Golf Club in Erie,
Colo.
Butler will be competing in the Central Regional for the second
consecutive year, and the Bulldogs will be seeking their first trip
to the championships finals. Seniors Michele Nash and Clare
Cornelius and junior Julia Porter were members of last year’s
squad, which became the first team in Butler women’s golf
history to earn a berth in the NCAA Women’s Golf
Championship. Butler placed 24th at the Central Regional a
year ago.
The NCAA championships finals will be held May 22-25 at the
Vanderbilt Legends Club in Franklin, Tenn.
