Michele Nash Finishes Second At Indiana Women’s Open

GREENWOOD, IND. -- Former Butler standout Michele Nash turned in a strong performance at the Pepsi Indiana Women’s Open and wound up placing runner-up in the tournament, which wrapped up on Tuesday (July 3) at Hickory Stick Golf Club.  More than 100 golfers participated in the 36-hole tournament.

Nash, a two-time Horizon League Player of the Year who graduated this past spring, shot an even-par 71 in the opening round and was tied for third after the first day.  She finished with another even-par performance in the final round and wound up one stroke behind individual winner Kristi Cardwell of Kokomo.  Cardwell shot a 73 in the first round, but stormed back with a three-under-par 68 in the final round to edge Nash.

Julia Porter, Nash’s former teammate at Butler, wound up finishing in a tie for eighth place with a six-over-par 148.  Porter, who will be a senior at Butler this fall, grabbed the first day lead in the tournament by shooting a sparkling two-under-par 69 in the opening round.  She finished with a 79 on the final day.

Nash and Porter helped Butler to back-to-back Horizon League women’s golf championships over the past two seasons and two consecutive appearances in the NCAA Women’s Golf Championship.  Nash was Butler’s leading scorer last season with a school-record 75.9 average, while Porter finished fifth on the squad in scoring with an 82.2 average.
