Butler Women Win Green Bay Championship

GREEN BAY, WIS. -- Senior Michele Nash posted a runner-up individual finish and helped lead Butler to the team title at the 10-team Green Bay Invitational, which wrapped up at the Green Bay Country Club on Tuesday, Sept. 13.  The title, coupled with a first place finish by Butler's men, gave the Bulldogs a sweep of the men's and women's crowns.

Butler had four players finish among the "Top 10" individuals while rolling to the team championship.  Nash shot back-to-back rounds of 76 and led the Bulldogs with a six-over-par 152, just three strokes behind individual medalist Ann Vrdolyak of Loyola.

Freshman Isabella Lambert, playing in her first collegiate tournament, came in one stroke behind Nash and finished third overall.  She shot an opening-round 78 and then finished with Butler's best tournament score, a two-over-par 75.

Senior Clare Cornelius tied for fifth in the meet with rounds of 77 and 79 for a 36-hole total of 156, while freshman Jenna Peters came in 10th with scores of 82 and 77 (159).  Junior Julia Porter, Butler's fifth player, posted rounds of 79 and 88 (167) and a tied for 28th place.

Junior Ali Arends played as a non-scoring individual and wound up in a tie for 16th place.  She shot rounds of 76 and 87 for a two-day score of 163.

Butler stood second after the opening round, but the Bulldogs shot ten strokes better than any other team in the final round and ran away with the title by 13 strokes.  The Bulldogs carded a 310 on the first day and a 307 in the final round.  Loyola finished runner-up with a 36-hole score of 630.
