Butler Captures Valparaiso Invitational
VALPARAISO, IND. -- Senior Michele Nash captured medalist honors, freshman Jenna Peters placed runner-up and Butler rolled to the team title at the Valparaiso Invitational, which wrapped up at Tuesday (Sept. 20) at The Course at Aberdeen. It was Butler's second championship in as many tournaments this fall.
Nash grabbed the individual lead by shooting an even-par 72 in the opening round on Monday (Sept. 19). She held the top spot with a one-over-par 73 in the final round. Her 36-hole total left her four strokes ahead of Peters, who followed an opening-round 79 with a final round, two-under-par 70 (149). Peters' final round effort was the best 18-hole score of the tournament.
Junior Julia Porter came in 14th overall with back-to-back rounds of 79, while freshman Isabella Lambert tied for 19th with an 82 in the opening round and a 78 on the final day. Butler's fifth golfer, senior Clare Cornelius, carded an 87 in the first round and closed with an 82 to finish 50th.
The Bulldogs shot a team score of 312 in the first round and led the tournament by six strokes heading into the final day. Butler then closed with a 300, the tournament's best team round, to finish 16 strokes ahead of runner-up Loyola.
