Bulldogs Finish Tenth At Memphis Invitational
MEMPHIS, TENN. -- Senior Michele Nash wound up tied for fifth in the final individual standings and Butler placed 10th in the team competition at the Memphis Women's Invitational, which wrapped up at Ridgeway Country Club on Tuesday, Oct. 25. The tournament was Butler's final fall competition.
Nash, the tournament's first day leader after shooting a school-record, two-under-par 69 in the opening round, wound up shooting an 80 in the second round, which was begun on Monday and completed on Tuesday. The Butler scoring leader then came back with a 77 in the final round for a 54-hole total of 226. She finished three strokes behind runner-up Kristin Tan of Xavier.
Butler's next best finish was turned in by junior Julia Porter, who bounced back from an opening-round 87 to shoot 76 and 79 in the final two rounds. Her three round total of 242 placed her in a tie for 45th place. Freshman Isabella Lambert came in three strokes back in 49th place with rounds of 81, 81 and 83.
Rounding out Butler's "Top Five" were freshman Jenna Peters, who tied for 52nd with rounds of 79, 84 and 85 (248), and senior Clare Cornelius, who came in 67th with rounds of 81, 91 and 84 (256). Sophomore Ali Restaino, playing as a non-scoring individual, tied Peters and three other players for 52nd with rounds of 87, 81 and 80.
Host Memphis and Samford tied for the team title with 54-hole scores of 913. Marissa Steen of Memphis captured medalist honors with a three-round score of 215 (71, 75 and 69).
Butler closed out a successful fall schedule, which saw the Bulldogs win three of five tournaments. Head coach Bill Mattingly's squad captured team championships at the Green Bay Invitational, the Valparaiso Invitational and the Butler Fall Invitational.
