Butler placed four golfers among the top 14 individuals and trailed only host South Alabama after the first day of the 10th Annual USA Women's Invitationals in Mobile, Ala. The 13-team tournament wraps up on Tuesday, Feb. 28.
Senior Michele Nash (right) and freshman Isabella Lambert each shot a first-round, four-over-par 76 to grab a share of eighth place in the opening round standings. Teammates Jenna Peters and Claire Cornelius finished one stroke back in a tie for 14th place. Butler's fifth golfer, Julia Porter, finished the first round in a tie for 45th place with an 82.
Butler posted a team score of 306 and trailed tournament leader South Alabama by just two strokes after 18 holes.
The first round was plagued by heavy rain and lightning, which forced a two-hour delay and reduced the tournament to 36 holes.
