Bulldogs Finish Second At South Alabama Tournament
MOBILE, ALA. -- Senior Michele Nash captured a "Top 5" individual finish and Butler wound up as runner-up in the team standings at the 10th Annual USA Women's Invitational, which concluded in Mobile, Ala., on Tuesday, Feb. Host South Alabama won the 13-team event by two strokes over the Bulldogs.
Nash (right), who shot a 76 in the opening round, matched the second-best score of the final day with a two-over-par 73. She tied with Taylor McGraw of Troy and Sarah Butts of Samford for fifth place in the final individual standings, two strokes behind medalist Lina Lagergren of Louisiana-Monroe.
Butler freshman Isabella Lambert shot a 74 in the final round to go with her opening-round 76 and finished eighth in the individual competition. Senior Claire Cornelius tied for 14th with back-to-back rounds of 77, and freshman Jenna Peters tied for 20th with rounds of 77 and 79. Junior Julia Porter carded rounds of 82 and 89 and tied for 60th.
The Bulldogs, who shot a team score of 306 on the first day of the tournament, matched the best score of the final day with a 303. Butler finished five strokes ahead of Samford in third place.
Butler will continue its spring schedule in Florida with a three-team match against Evansville and Cleveland State on March 10.
