Butler Women Third At Benbow Invitational
JACKSONVILLE, FLA. -- Senior Michele Nash sparked a strong final round rally and led Butler to a third place finish at the 14-team Don Benbow Invitational at the Jacksonville Beach Golf Course in Jacksonville, Fla.
The Bulldogs, who shot a team score of 330 in the opening round, entered the final day of the 36-hole tournament in a tie for fifth place. But Nash led a final round surge that saw four of Butler's five players improve their first round scores, helping the Bulldogs to the second-best team score of the final round.
Nash, who was tied for 20th after the first round, shot a one-over-par 73 on the final day to claim fifth place in the final individual standings. She improved eight strokes over her first day score, and she finished with a two-day total of 154, four strokes behind medalist Shelby Hardy of Sam Houston State.
Freshman Jenna Peters improved four strokes with a 77 on the final day and tied for 11th overall with a 36-hole score of 158. Freshman Isabella Lambert carded a 74 in the final round, 11 strokes better than her opening round total, and tied for 15th with a two-day total of 159.
Senior Clare Cornelius tied for 41st with rounds of 89 and 79 (168), while junior Julia Porter tied for 43rd with rounds of 83 and 86 (169). Sophomore Ali Restaino, playing as a non-scoring individual, tied for 59th with a final score of 176 (85-91).
Butler shot a team score of 303 in the final round, a total topped only by the 299 carded by team champ IUPUI.
