Bulldogs Finish Second In Florida Tournament

JACKSONVILLE, FLA. -- Butler had three of the top four individuals, but IUPUI captured the women's team title at the inaugural Bulldog Florida Invitational at Windsor Parke Golf Course in Jacksonville, Fla.  The Bulldogs finished runner-up in the 36-hole event, which concluded on Thursday, March 15.

Freshman Jenna Peters shot a 76 on the first day of the tournament and then closed with a three-over-par 75 on the final day for a 36-hole total of 151.  She finished runner-up overall, one stroke behind medalist Jordan Essman of IUPUI.

Butler's Isabella Lambert came in third overall with rounds of 75 and 77.  The first-year player finished just two strokes out of the lead.  Senior Michele Nash, who held the first round lead after shooting a one-over-par 73 on the opening day, wound up tied for fourth.  She closed with an 82 on the final day for a 36-hole total of 155.

Senior Clare Cornelius posted rounds of 81 and 86 (167) and tied for 16th overall, while junior Julia Porter carded rounds of 85 and 83 (168) and placed 18th.  Sophomore Ali Restaino, playing as a non-scoring individual, shot an 84 in the first round and then came back with an 80 in the final round to finish 13th overall with a 36-hole score of 164.

Butler shot a team score of 305 in the first round and held the team lead heading into the final day.  But a final round 317 left the Bulldogs trailing IUPUI by four strokes at the completion of the tournament.

The Bulldogs will return to action on March 26 at the Butler Spring Invitational.  The two-day tournament will be held at Prestwick Country Club in Avon, Ind.
