Butler Rolls To Spring Invitational Title
AVON, IND. -- Senior Michele Nash captured medalist honors and led a dominant team performance to help Butler run away with the championship at the Butler Spring Invitational, which concluded at Prestwick Country Club on Tuesday, March 27. The Bulldogs won the team title by 32 strokes.
Nash followed her first round 76 with a 77 in the final round for a two-day total of 153, two strokes better than first round leader Cathy Doyle of Evansville. Doyle, who opened the tournament with a 75, carded an 80 in the second round and wound up runner-up in the tournament at 155.
The Bulldogs captured four of the top five individual positions in the six-team tournament. Junior Julia Porter shot an 82 on the final day and placed third overall with a 36-hole total of 158. Freshman Jenna Peters added an 82 to her first-round 81 and finished fourth at 163. Freshman Isabella Lambert carded rounds of 83 and 82 (165) and wound up tied for fifth in the final individual standings.
Senior Clare Cornelius, Butler's fifth golfer, shot back-to-back rounds of 84 and wound up tied for 12th place at 168.
Sophomore Ali Restaino led Butler's non-scoring individuals with rounds of 87 and 88 (175), good for a tie for 21st place. Junior Alexandra Arends shot rounds of 98 and 88 (186) and finished 32nd, while freshman Megan Schaefer carded rounds of 117 and 111 and placed 37th.
Butler grabbed a first round lead in the tournament with a team score of 316 and the completed its run to the title with a team score of 323 in the final round for a 36-hole total of 639. Evansville finished second with a 671.
