Butler Grabs First Day Lead

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, FLA. -- Senior Clare Cornelius grabbed a share of the individual lead and defending champ Butler pulled away to the team lead after the first round of the 2012 Horizon League Women's Golf Championship at Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort on Friday, April 27.  

Cornelius and Detroit's Lindsey Lammers each shot a first round 79 to pace the 40-player field.  The two co-leaders were one stroke ahead of Butler's Isabella Lambert in third place.

Butler senior Michele Nash, the defending individual winner and two-time Horizon League Player of the Year, shot an 84 on the opening day was tied for ninth.  Junior Julia Porter and freshman Jenna Peters both carded an 88 and were part of a seven-way tie for 16th.

The Bulldogs finished the first round with a team total of 331, 11 strokes ahead of Detroit in second place.

The 54-hole league championship will continue on Saturday, April 28.
