Butler Adds To Horizon League Lead

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, FLA. -- Butler boasted three of the top six individuals and stretched its team lead to 20 strokes after the second day of the 2012 Horizon League Women's Golf Championship at Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort on Saturday, April 28.  The 54-hole league championship will conclude on Sunday, April 29.  

Senior Clare Cornelius, who shared the first round lead after shooting a 79 on the first day of the competition, slipped slightly on the second day, finishing with an 81.  She'll enter the final round in third place in the individual standings, two strokes ahead of freshman teammate Isabella Lambert.  The first-year Butler golfer is tied for fourth overall after shooting rounds of 80 and 82.

Senior Michele Nash, the defending Horizon League individual champ, followed her first round 84 with an 80 on Saturday.  She stands sixth overall, six strokes behind individual leader Lindsey Lammers of Detroit.

Freshman Jenna Peters sits just outside the "Top 10" with rounds of 88 and 80.  She'll enter Sunday's final round in a tie for 11th place.  Junior Julia Porter is tied for 24th after shooting rounds of 88 and 89.

The Bulldogs, who held an 11-stroke lead after the opening round, increased their advantage by shooting a tournament-best 323 in the second round.  Butler leads the field with a team score of 654, while Detroit stands second at 674.
