Butler Wins Horizon League Title

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, FLA. -- Butler grabbed the lead in the opening round and never let go.  The Bulldogs wrapped up their second consecutive Horizon League Women's Golf Championship at Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort in Florida on Sunday, April 29.

The Bulldogs, who led the 54-hole tournament wire-to-wire, wound up with four players among the top eight individuals.  Senior Clare Cornelius (right), who shot a 79 on the final day, finished third overall with a three-round score of 239, while senior and two-time Horizon League Player of the Year Michele Nash placed fifth with a final score of 245.  Nash shot an 81 on the final day.

Freshman Isabella Lambert, named the Horizon League's Newcomer of the Year, came in sixth with an 86 in the final round and a 54-hole score of 248, while freshman Jenna Peters finished eighth with a final round 84 and a tournament total of 252.  Junior Julia Porter tied for 23rd overall at 263.  She carded an 86 on Sunday.

Cornelius, Nash and Lambert each earned All-Tournament recognition.

Butler carried a 20-stroke lead heading into the final round, and the Bulldogs closed with a 330 for a three-day total of 984.  Detroit and Loyola tied second at 1009.
