Bulldogs Stand 20th After First Day

COLUMBUS, OHIO -- Butler carded a team score of 321 to begin its bid at the 2012 NCAA Division I Women's Golf Central Regional on the Scarlet Course at Ohio State University on Thursday, May 10.  The Bulldogs will continue play in the 54-hole tournament on Friday, May 11.

Junior Julia Porter topped the Bulldogs on the opening day with a six-over-par 78.  She was one of 14 players tied for 42nd place, just one stroke out of 34th place and five strokes shy of a "Top 10" individual spot.

Senior Michele Nash, the reigning Horizon League Player of the Year, came in one stroke back with a 79 and a tie for 56th place, while freshman Isabella Lambert finished in a tie for 78th place with an 81.  Freshman Jenna Peters (right) shot a first round 83, which tied her for 101st place, and senior Clare Cornelius posted an 87 to tie for 118th.

Southern California grabbed the first round lead with a team score of 298, one stroke ahead of Georgia in second place and three strokes ahead of Purdue in third.  A total of 24 teams began play on the opening day.
