Two Butler women's golfers, junior Claire Cornelius and sophomore Julia Porter, have been named All-American Scholars by the National Golf Coaches Association. A total of 566 women's collegiate golfers were honored for the 2010-11 season. The teams for Division I, II and III were announced on Friday (July 8).
The criteria for selection are some of the most rigorous in all of college athletics. To be recognized, Cornelius, a marketing major, and Porter, a communications science and disorders major, had to maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50 on a 4.0 scale. Also, in competing at a Division I institution, they had to have played in at least 50 percent of Butler's regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year nominated.
The two scholar-athletes helped Butler to the Horizon League Women's Golf Championship, and to the Bulldogs first appearance in the NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championship in 2011.
