Three Butler Golfers Earn Academic Recognition
INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- Butler golfers Isabella Lambert, Nicole Johnson and Megan McCambridge have been named to the 2013-14 Division I All-American Scholar Team by the Women's Golf Coaches Association. The WGCA honored a total of 664 women's collegiate golfers in Division I, II & III for academic excellence.
The three golfers helped lead Butler through its first season in the BIG EAST Conference. The team captured tournament championships at the Chesapeake Invitational, the Butler Spring Invitational and the Big Four Classic, before placing sixth at the BIG EAST Tournament.
Lambert, a junior biology major, was named to the All-American Scholar Team for the third straight year. She finished as the team's second-leading scorer with a 78.5 average, and she placed in the "Top 5" in seven different tournaments, including a medalist finish at the Big Four Classic. She tied for 25th at the BIG EAST Championship.
Johnson, a finance major, earned a spot on the All-American Scholar Team for the second straight year. She finished as Butler's sixth-leading scorer with an 83.4 average, and she had two "Top 5" tournament finishes. The Butler sophomore had a season-best third place finish at the Big Four Classic.
McCambridge, a physician's assistant major in her first season with the Bulldogs, was Butler's third leading scorer with an 81.7 average. She had one "Top 5" tournament finish and placed in the "Top 10" three times. The first-year player came in fourth at the Chesapeake Invitational, while helping Butler to the team title.
All three players were named to the Butler Athletic Director's Honor Roll in 2013-14, and all three maintained perfect 4.00 grade point averages during the spring semester.
The criteria for selection to the All-American scholar Team are among the most stringent in all of college athletics. Athletes must maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) and must have participated in 50% of the team's regularly-scheduled competitive rounds.
