Named men's and women's golf coach at Butler University
2007...served as golf coach at Cathedral High School in
Indianapolis for the past 17 years. Mattingly, a life member of the
Indiana Professional Golfers Association, began coaching the boys'
golf team at Cathedral in 1990. He added coaching responsibility
for the girls' golf team in 2003. He guided Cathedral teams to 32
invitational titles and six state championship appearances. His
boys' team placed fifth in the state tournament this spring after
finishing in a tie for 11th in 2006. He was named Ball State Alumni
Coach of the Year for both boys and girls golf in 2006. Mattingly,
a varsity golf letterwinner at Ball State (1971-72), has been
actively involved in golf in the Indianapolis area for more than
three decades. He served as head professional at Thatcher Golf
Course in Indianapolis from 1981 to 1984 and at South Grove Golf
Course from 1985 to 1992. He was owner of Supreme Golf and Driving
Range in Carmel from 1993 to 2003. An accomplished player, the new
Butler head coach won the Indiana Assistant's Championship in 1979,
and he was Indiana PGA Champion in 1983. He's an eight-time
qualifier for the National Club Professional Championship.
Mattingly earned a B. S. degree in marketing from Ball State in
1976. He and his wife, Maureen Sullivan, have four sons, William
(26), Daniel (24), Charles (18) and Peter (17).
