Bulldogs Finish Sixth At Ann Rhoads Invitational

Senior Lauren Showers posted a top five individual finish and Butler placed sixth as a team at the 2009 Ann Rhoads Invitational, hosted by Birmingham-Southern College on Sunday and Monday, Feb. 22-23. The 36-hole tournament held at Timberline Golf Course was the first event of Butler's spring golf season.

Showers, playing in midseason form, carded rounds of 77 and 76 in the two-day tournament to finish fifth with a final score of 11-over-par 153. She finished one stroke out of third place and six strokes behind medalist Heather Arnold of Samford.

Freshman Michele Nash placed 10th for the Bulldogs with rounds of 80 and 77 (157), while sophomore Allison Lipps came in 15th with a 36-hole score of 163 (78-85). Rounding out Butler's squad were freshman Clare Cornelius, who placed 28th with a score of 171 (90-81), sophomore Nicole Simon, who wound up 40th with a total of 183 (92-91) and sophomore Molly Fields, who tied for 42nd at 188 (96-92).

Samford won the seven-team tournament with a team score of 311, while Indiana State and Jackson State tied for second at 326. Host Birmingham Southern was fourth (327), followed by Evansville (336), Butler (339) and Presbyterian (342).

Butler's next outing will be at the North-South Collegiate tournament in Jacksonville, Fla., March 9-10.
