Butler Places Third At Lady Racer Classic

Sophomore Lauren Showers tied for sixth in the final individual standings and helped lead Butler to a third place team finish at the eight-team Lady Racer Classic hosted by Murray State University at Miller Memorial Golf Course on Monday and Tuesday, March 5-6. Central Arkansas grabbed the team title, while Tennessee Tech finished runner-up.
Showers carded an opening round 79 and then finished with an 83 to tie Rebecca Sorenson of Central Arkansas for sixth place at 162 (+18). Junior Paige McCracken finished in a tie for eighth place, two strokes back with a 164 (84-80). She had Butler's best final round score.
The Bulldogs also picked up a "Top 15" finish from junior Niki Garden, who tied for 14th place with a 36-hole total of 166 (83-83). Rounding out Butler's squad was sophomore Ashlen Christie, who placed 23rd with rounds of 84 and 86.
Christina Lecuyer of Central Arkansas claimed medalist honors with back-to-back rounds of four-over-par 76 (152, +8), while her teammate, Nicole Forshner, finished second with a two-round score of 157 (79-78).
Butler's team total of 662 was nine strokes shy of Tennessee Tech. The Bulldogs finished two strokes ahead of Indiana State in fourth place, while host Murray State came in fifth with a 666. Rend Lake CC was sixth (711), Tennessee State was seventh (750) and Chicago State came in eighth (826).
The Bulldogs next competition will be at the North-South Intercollegiate in Jacksonville, Fla., on Monday and Tuesday, March 12-13.
