Freshman Clare Cornelius shot a career-best 70 and finished runner-up in the individual competition and Butler tied for fourth in the team race at the North-South Collegiate golf tournament, which concluded in Jacksonville, Fla., on Tuesday, March 11. Bethune-Cookman won the 11-team tournament at Jacksonville Beach Golf Club
Cornelius, who shot a 74 in the opening round of the tournament, posted the best round of the final day. Her 36-hole total of four-over-par 144 was just one stroke behind individual medalist Fern Grimshaw of Bethune-Cookman.
Senior Lauren Showers finished with an 81 and slipped into a tie for 16th place with a two-day total of 158, while freshman Michele Nash, who also shot 81 in the final round, tied for 28th with a 36-hole score of 163. Sophomore Molly Fields carded Butler's third 81 in the final round and tied for 38th at 166, while sophomore Allison Lipps tied for 47th (175, 87-88).
Sophomore Nicole Simon, playing as a non-scoring individual, shot an 84 in the final round after posting a 76 in the opening round and finished in a tie for 20th.
Butler's final team score of 631 matched Jackson State, just four strokes behind St. John's in third place. Detroit shot a 307 in the final round and finished runner-up with a two-day score of 623. Team champ Bethune-Cookman shot 607.
