Sophomore Lauren Showers nabbed a "Top 5" individual finish and Butler placed sixth as a team at the 2007 Butler Spring Invitational golf tournament, held at Prestwick Golf Club in Avon, Ind., on Monday and Tuesday, March 19-20. Ball State claimed the team title in the nine-team competition.
Showers shot an opening round 83 and then closed with a 77 to finish at +16 160. She tied with Lucy McGovern of Loyola and Katie Broere of Cleveland State for fifth place in the individual standings. Her final round score was the best individual round by a Butler player.
The Bulldogs also had two players tie for 19th in the tournament. Junior Niki Garden carded rounds of 80 and 85 to finish with a 36-hold total of 165. She tied with teammate Sarah Swanson, who shot rounds of 85 and 80. Sophomore Ashlen Christie came in 37th with rounds of 87 and 90 (177).
Butler shot a team total of 335 in the opening round and then finished with a 332 for a two-day total of 667. Ball State posted a winning score of 637, while runner-up IPFW finished at 650. Oakland finished third, followed by Loyola, IUPUI, Butler, Cleveland State, Marian and Robert Morris.
