Sophomore Nicole Simon and senior Lauren Showers fueled a strong second round performance by the Bulldogs and lifted Butler into a fourth place team finish at the Butler Spring Invitational, which wrapped up at Prestwick Country Club on Tuesday (March 24).
Simon and Showers each carded a 77 in the second round to help Butler post a team score of 321, the second best total recorded in the final round. Simon, who shot an 84 in the first round, wound up in third place in the final individual standings with a 36-hole total of 161, while Showers finished in a tie for fourth place one stroke back.
Freshman Clare Cornelius wound up tied for 19th with a two-day score of 169 (87-82), while freshman Michele Nash placed 23rd with a 171 (86-85). Sophomore Molly Fields rounded out Butler's scoring team with a 185 (96-89), good for 36th place.
Sophomore Allison Lipps topped Butler's non-scoring individuals with a two-day score of 170 (86-84) and a 22nd place finish. Sophomore Marcella Moreman tied for 34th with a 179 (90-89) and freshman Maribeth Ornelas placed 43rd with a 206 (109-97).
Northern Iowa, led by medalist Ann Arnason (80-74 154), captured the team crown with a two-day score of 645, including a 312 in the final round. Dayton finished second at 652.
