Junior Lauren Showers tied for sixth place in the final individual standings and Butler came from behind to finish runner-up at the 10-team UC Women's Collegiate Invitational golf tournament at Elks Run Golf Course in Batavia, Ohio. Host Cincinnati captured the team crown in the 54-hole tournament.
Butler entered the final 36 holes of competition on Tuesday (April 1) in a tie for third place, but climbed with a strong team score of 321 in the second round. The Bulldogs closed with a 337 in the final round to finish with a three-round score of 990, two strokes ahead of third place Youngstown State.
Showers, who shot an 82 in the opening round on Monday (March 31), keyed the second round surge for the Bulldogs with a four-over-par 76. It was the best single round score for Butler in the tournament. Showers closed with an 82 for a 54-hole total of 240.
Senior Niki Garden came in 14th with rounds of 81, 80 and 86 (247), while senior Lynnsey Showers tied for 20th with scores of 84, 84 and 85 (253). Senior Paige McCracken tied for 26th, posting scores of 90, 81 and 84 (255), and freshman Molly Fields tied for 36th with scores of 85, 90 and 86 (261).
Bambee Dela Paz of Cincinnati captured medalist honors in the meet with a three-round score of 228. She carded individual rounds of 76, 73 and 79.
