Senior Paige McCracken won the individual competition and helped lead Butler to a sixth place team finish at the 12-team Cardinal Classic golf tournament, hosted by Ball State University at Delaware Country Club on Sunday and Monday (April 13-14). Ball State captured the team crown in the 36-hole event.
McCracken shot an opening round, five-over-par 76 and began the final day in a tie for sixth place in the individual standings. She then went out and carded the second-best score of the tournament with a one-over-par 72 in the final round to claim medalist honors by a single stroke.
Ashley Smith of Grand Valley State, who shot an even-par 71 in the final round, finished runner-up with a 36-hole total of 149.
Senior Lynnsey Showers carded rounds of 79 and 76 (155) to finish in a tie for seventh place in the final standings, while junior Lauren Showers posted scores of 76 and 84 (160) and wound up in a tie for 20th place.
Rounding out Butler's top five were senior Niki Garden, who shot rounds of 89 and 84 (173) and tied for 52nd place, and freshman Molly Fields, who posted scores of 90 and 84 (174) and tied for 56th place. Freshman Allison Lipps, playing as a non-scoring individual, shot rounds of 88 and 87 (175) and placed 59th.
