Butler Places Fifth At Horizon League Championship

Senior Lauren Showers matched the third-best round of the final day and wound up tied for fifth place in the final individual standings at the Horizon League Women's Golf Championship, which concluded at Kearney Hill Golf Links in Lexington, Ky., on Sunday, April 26. The Bulldogs wound up fifth in the final team standings.
Showers, who shot an 85 in the first round and a 78 in the second round, carded a 79 on the final day and finished with a 54-hole total of 242 to tie Katie Broere of Cleveland State and Katie Rogner of Youngstown State for fifth place. Only Mallory Wyderka of Cleveland State (75) and Brittany Stillwagon of Youngstown State (78) had better final round scores.
The fifth place finish gave Showers All-Tournament recognition for the fourth consecutive year. She became just the third player in league history to earn All-Tournament honors four times, joining her sister, Lynnsey, and former teammate Paige McCracken.
Showers also was named to the All-Horizon League Team for the fourth straight year, becoming just the second player in league history to accomplish that feat. Cleveland State's Kristen Obush (2003-06) was the first four-time All-League pick.
Butler freshman Clare Cornelius wound up tied for 14th place with a final score of 250 (82-86-82), while freshman Michele Nash tied for 17th with a three-round score of 255 (91-81-83). Sophomores Molly Fields (89-85-85) and Allison Lipps (94-83-82) tied for 22nd place with a final score of 259.
Youngstown State captured the team crown, ending Butler's streak
of four consecutive Horizon League championships.
