Butler Claims Third Straight Horizon League Title

May 1, 2007

Junior Paige McCracken claimed medalist honors and helped lead Butler to its third consecutive Horizon League women's golf title at the 2007 league championship held at Shaker Run Golf Club in Lebanon, Ohio, on Monday and Tuesday (April 30-May 1). Butler swept the top three individual finishes in the league tournament.

McCracken shots rounds of 85 and 81 on the first day of the tournament and then closed with an 80 in the final round to claim first place by a single stroke over teammates Niki Garden, a junior, and sophomore Lauren Showers. McCracken's final round 80 was the best closing score of the tournament.

Garden, who was named Horizon League Player of the Year, opened with back-to-back rounds of 82 and then shot an 83 on the final day. Showers, who won tournament medalist honors a year ago, had an 83 in the opening round, a 79 in the second round and an 85 in the final round. She was the only player to break 80 in the second round.

Rounding out Butler's five-player squad were sophomore Ashlen Christie, who tied for 18th place, and senior Sarah Swanson, who came in 23rd.

Butler head coach Steve Jones was named Horizon League Women's Coach of the Year for the third consecutive season.
