Bulldogs Place 12th At Nittany Lion Women's Invitational

Senior Lauren Showers tied for 14th in the final individual standings and Butler placed 12th in the team competition at the Nittany Lion Invitational women's golf tournament, which wrapped up on Sunday (Sept. 14). The College of William and Mary won the 15-team tournament.

Showers shot an opening-round, three-over-par 75, before posting an 82 in the second round. She closed with a two-over-par 74 to finish with a 54-hole total of 231. Showers tied with Emily Riddle of Penn State, three stroke shy of a "Top 10" individual finish.

Freshman Michele Nash finished one stroke back in a tie for 16th place with rounds of 74, 78 and 80. She had the best opening round and second round scores for the Bulldogs.

Freshman Clare Cornelius and sophomore Molly Fields tied for 59th place with three-round scores of 250. Cornelius carded rounds of 78, 84 and 88, while Fields posted scores of 86, 82 and 82. Sophomore Nicole Simon placed 69th with scores of 88, 89 and 83 (260).

The Bulldogs opened the tournament with a team score of 313, but then slipped to 326 in the second round. Butler finished with a 319 for a three-round score of 958.
