Junior Lauren Showers shot a two-under-par 69 and Butler opened a 20-stroke lead in the team competition after the first round of the Butler Fall Invitational held at Eagle Creek Golf Course on Monday (Oct. 1). The final round of the tournament is slated for Tuesday, Oct. 2.
Showers shot a blistering 32 on the front nine of the 6,000-yard layout and then closed with a 37 for her sub-par total. She was the lone golfer in the field to break par in the first round.
Senior Niki Garden carded a one-over-par 72 and stood third after the first day, while junior Lynnsey Showers was tied for seventh at 77. Senior Paige McCracken held a tie for ninth with a 78. Ashlen Christie completed the scoring team with an 87.
Butler's team total of 296 gave the Bulldogs a 20-stroke advantage over second place Eastern Illinois heading into the final round.
