Freshman Michele Nash shot a four-over-par 148 to capture medalist honors and lead Butler to the team title at the Butler Fall Invitational golf tournament, which wrapped up at Eagle Creek Golf Course on Tuesday, Oct. 7. The Bulldogs out-paced the 10-team field by 11 strokes.
Nash had the best first-day score in the 36-hole tournament with an even-par 72 in the opening round. She closed with a 76 in the final day to finish two strokes ahead of runner-up Carrie Riordan of Eastern Illinois.
The Bulldogs placed three individuals among the "Top 10" finishers. Sophomore Molly Fields tied for sixth in the individual race with back-to-back rounds of 77 for a two-day score of 154. Freshman Clare Cornelius came in one stroke behind and tied for ninth in the tournament. Cornelius carded a 79 in the opening round and then tied Nash with a team-best 76 in the final round.
Sophomores Nicole Simon and Marcella Moreman and freshman Maribeth Ornelas all competed in the tournament as non-scoring individuals. Simon tied for 25th (83-77 160), Moreman tied for 27th (78-83 161) and Ornelas placed 60th (118-97 215).
Eastern Illinois finished second in the team competition, while Chicago State was third.
