Butler, paced by senior Paige McCracken, shot back-to-back rounds of 323 and finished 11th in the 17-team Lady Indian Classic, hosted by Arkansas State on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 8-9. Central Arkansas, with blistering rounds of 295 and 308, won the 36-hole event.
McCracken was the lone Butler player to break 80 in both rounds of the two-day tournament. She carded an opening-round 78 and then finished with a 79 for a 36-hole total of 157. Her score placed her in a tie for 25th place in the final individual standings.
Junior Lynnsey Showers finished 40th with rounds of 81 and 79 (160), while freshman Nicole Simon tied for 57th with scores of 81 and 85 (166). Senior Niki Garden (86-81, 167) and freshman Molly Fields (83-84 167) tied for 61st place.
Butler head coach Bill Mattingly also entered two players as non-scoring individuals. Freshman Allison Lipps shot back-to-back rounds of 82 (164) and finished in a tie for 49th place, while freshman Marcella Moreman tied for 70th with scores of 81 and 88 (169).
Maggie Welch of McNeese State posted a five-over-par 147 to capture medalist honors. She finished one stroke ahead of Kelli Warner of runner-up Eastern Kentucky,
