Freshman Michele Nash, who helped lead Butler to the team title at the Butler Fall Invitational, has been named Horizon League Women's Golf Athlete of the Week. She's the first member of the Butler women's golf team to be honored by the league this fall.
Nash, playing in the first home meet of her young collegiate career, captured individual medalist honors at the Butler Fall Invitational. She carded a collegiate-best, even-par 72 in the opening round of the 36-hole tournament and then finished with a 76 for a two-day total of four-over-par 148. Her 36-hole score was two strokes better than runner-up Carrie Riordan of Eastern Illinois.
The first-round 72 that Nash posted is the second-best score recorded in the Horizon League this fall, trailing the 70 that Katie Tabbert of Green Bay shot on Sept. 15.
Nash also placed fifth at the IPFW Fall Classic on Sept. 29-30. She shot a 76 in the opening round and finished with an 80 for a two-day score of 156.
The Bulldogs won the 10-team Butler Fall Invitational by 11 strokes, while finishing second at the six-team IPFW Fall Classic.
