Butler Signs Two Indianapolis Golfers

Nov. 26, 2007

Head coach Bill Mattingly turned to familiar territory to land two prospects for next year's Butler women's golf team. The first-year Butler coach signed Michele Nash and Clare Cornelius, both of Cathedral High School in Indianapolis, during the NCAA fall signing period. Mattingly served as the head coach at Cathedral for 17 years.

Nash placed third at the 2007 Indiana High School championship. She's finished first in five high school invitationals, and she's a two-time sectional champion and a three-time Indianapolis high school champion. Named to the All-State golf team in 2007, she won the 2007 Indianapolis City Women's Championship.

A daughter of Dave and Mary Nash, Michele is a member of the National Honor Society at Cathedral.

Cornelius was a 2007 high school sectional champion. She qualified for the state championship in both 2006 and 2007, placing 19th this year. She owns four individual championships on the Indiana Junior Tour, and she was medalist at the 2007 Indianapolis Women's City Amateur.

A tennis All-State performer in 2006, Clare is a National Honor Society member and a daughter of John and Ellen Cornelius.

Butler has won three consecutive Horizon League championships in women's golf.
